Foreign direct investment, in the simplest term, is an investment made by a company or individual in a country for commercial purposes in another country. The word “foreign” mentioned in the expression of foreign direct investment is used to refer to being outside the borders of any country. The term foreign capital refers to the ownership of a certain amount of capital in any country by the citizens of another country. The word “direct” distinguishes foreign capital investments from portfolio investments.
